Has your holiday vibe already laid off by now? Or could you still preserve some of the beautiful energy for a fresh start into the autumn season?
In my vacation I re-read the book ‚The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning‘ by Margareta Magnusson. (Purging and cleaning your house not only for yourself, but for your relatives dealing with your belongings after your passing.)
Purging clutter gives us peace of mind, reduces stress, and most of all makes space and time for new great ideas and endeavors.
We mostly associate this with our private lives, but as leaders we might also purge our ,dead wood‘ at work - in a TEAM EFFORT!
So how about you take half a day to
⁃ sit down for 15min to make a plan and allocate purging responsibilities. ⏱️
⁃ take 2-3 hours to clean up as a team, potentially with some good mood music. 🎶
⁃ take another 30-60min to assess and celebrate the results, plus reflect and jointly think about what mental ballast you would like to let go off in addition as a team. 💡
Here are a few good places to start:
⁃ The stuffed cupboard in the back of the office
⁃ Everyone‘s physical desks and computer desktops
⁃ Your Team‘s online Share Point
⁃ Email folders and other (team) communication tools like, e.g., MS Teams.
Happy Purging!
PS. As many of you know, Sandra and I are big fans of minimalism/essentialism - though by far not having this at home with kids and a hunter & gatherer husband each. So if you feel like us, the workplace is your essentialism playground. ☺️
