What if you could be (like) a superhero? 🦸🏻♀️
... a sorcerer 🧙🏻 a warrior 🥷🏻 a detective🕵🏻♂️ a rockstar🧑🏻🎤a firefighter👩🏻🚒?
Today is carnival Tuesday (Faschingdienstag) in Austria. It means that I saw a bunch of 6-year olds being all of the above in the morning. (My son has been either a knight or a lion for the past years.)
We usually pick costumes of roles and characters that we admire, and want to be. And very often we actually ARE a version of these as they reflect our deep inherent values and personality. Integrating these dream characters more into our regular daily lives only contributes to our uniqueness.
So here’s a little self reflection for this day of fun and celebration in tough times:
❓Which one was your absolute favorite costume(s) as a child? Which one would you pick now - something similar?
❓What made you pick especially this one? (What did you love about it?)
❓Which attributes of your costume did you find especially intriguing? (e.g., a warrior’s valiance, a detective’s cleverness, a superhero’s strength, a rockstar’s freedom of conventions, a sorcerer's defying gravity)
❓How could you take 1 or 2 of these attributes into your real world? E.g., through a new hobby, a crazy summer trip with your family/friends, or simply being more daring in the next team meeting? Maybe a physical reminder like a Pippi Longstocking screen saver, or a Hulk figurine on your desk support you?
💡In public speaking this is used to overcome stage fright:
Give your speech as if you were Supergirl, a Hollywood actor, an award-winning reporter, a … (you fill the dots).
Our body is immediately morphing into the pose and movement of the character you are thinking about, and our mind is so busy playing the role that we tend to forget about our stage fright. Plus, when we laugh, we can’t be stressed at the same time.
Try this for your prep, it’s great fun! Especially with a good friend or colleague.
Have a lovely day!
